About EIUC
The European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC) was established in Venice on 15 September 2002. Its Initial aims were to provide an institutional foundation and autonomous management to the European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation (E.MA) and to enable the member universities to jointly develop additional human rights educational programmes. Over time, EIUC has evolved into the leading interdisciplinary European centre for education and research in the field of human rights and democratisation, initiating new academic and operational activities in this area.
In addition to E.MA, EIUC manages different types of activities such as the Venice School and the Venice Academy of Human Rights, the GIZ/EIUC Académie d’été sur “La gouvernance de la transition au Maghreb”, training seminars, Regional Master’s in Human Rights and Democratisation and international conferences.
As of September 2011, the EIUC is composed by 39 of the 41 European universities already participating in the E.MA Programme. Given the extensive involvement of academics and experts at the highest levels from all 27 EU Member States as well as leading professionals and representatives from the EU institutions and other intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations, EIUC is uniquely positioned to pool and mobilise European expertise in the area of human rights and democratisation.
